Wireless gas shut-off valve dramatically improves operational
efficiency and safety
LIBERTY LAKE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ:ITRI) announced today it acquired C&N Engineering's
GasGate™ technology to augment its gas solutions by adding remote gas
shut-off capabilities to its product portfolio. This specialized
shut-off valve can be used in conjunction with Itron's gas technology
around the world to improve gas distribution reliability and safety.
Whether the gas utility is using an Itron drive-by or network system,
the wireless shut-off valve can be utilized to turn off gas remotely in
emergency or potentially hazardous situations.
C&N Engineering, LLC is based in Pennsylvania and designs and
manufactures the GasGate shut-off valve. Itron is working cooperatively
with C&N engineers to install and test the product in the field with
various gas distribution utilities. This flexible product can be used in
both residential and commercial applications and is designed to take
advantage of a variety of communication options to support Itron
deployments globally. Initially, the product will be integrated with
Itron's ERT-based communications for gas network and mobile system
customers in North America.
"This innovative technology will help gas utilities remotely detect
tampers and quickly respond to changes at the meter, ensuring that
people and property are safe at all times," said Neil Doveala, C&N
Engineering president. "In addition, it is designed to work with a
variety of communication technologies and can be adapted to global
markets, which further complements Itron's gas offering."
"We are pleased to add this technology to our gas portfolio. We've seen
a growing demand for remote gas shut-off in the market place, and this
product will meet our customers' gas safety and reliability needs," said
Phil Holdbrooks, Itron director product marketing, Energy.
